Note on version numbering

The version numbering used is similar to that of Linux. It has the form

X.Y.Z

X

Major version number. Increased when found that the new version is a major change compared to the previous one.

Y

Minor version number. Increased when found that the new version is only a minor change compared to the previous one. Even numbers are considered stable, odd numbers refer to development versions.

Z

For stable versions: increased if in the new version fixes a number of bugs found in previous versions. For development versions: increased when bugs are fixed and/or when new features are ready to be tested by the general public.
